Crying Tiger was written right here in the Midwest by Chef Supatra Johnson in Saint Paul Minnesota. Supatra grew up in Thailand and then in 1989 moved to America. She is married to Randall Johnson who is the photographer. Supatra has dedicated this book to her father Don Khommuangpak.

This paperback includes 130 Thai recipes with black and white photographs of the recipes. Supatra tells you about many of the Thai ingredients used and very wisely tells you of its uses and flavors. Also, she has dedicated a section of the book on cooking for kids.

An example of her writings of one ingredient is " Wing Bean" also known as (tua poo) in Thai. Wing bean is very crunchy, is eaten raw and tastes somewhat similar to long beans. It's used in Hot and Sour Soup (Gang Som) or is thinly sliced and used in place of long beans in Thai Fish Cakes (Tod Mun Pla).
